The Passing of a Friend

By June 11, 2025No Comments

Hello, readers,

This is a bit of a sad story. All of us have experienced losses, and will continue to do so. Sometimes, the grief we feel from losing someone who should be closer to us simply doesn’t hit as close to home as losing someone who’s been a friend, but who is like family.

My friend Bibba was that way. She was never too busy to help with anything you needed, was always ready to talk and offer advice if she felt that’s what was needed. I knew her for several decades. We sang in the choir together at church, and when she was no longer able to drive, I would pick her up and take her to church and wherever else she needed to go.

She was musical and loved playing with her three children, who entertained at a local senior citizen center every Tuesday.

Even in her last days, she was, as Americans say, “sharp as a tack.”

Then I went to see her a few days ago, as I had done for decades. She told me, “Theresa, the heart is failing, and I’m going with it.” Her daughter came over the next day and Bibba said to her, “I’m done.” She was just a month shy of her 100th birthday. We had been planning the party.

Now it’s going to be a memorial service.

Love those around you. See them when you can. You never know when the last time you see them IS the last time you see them.

Count your blessings, for there are many.
